Christmas Roundup...

So another Christmas has come and gone all too quickly but I guess the fact it's short and sweet makes you appreciate it all the more. This year we had a nice quiet affair filled with Downton, crackers and too much food!!

I hope you've all had a lovely few days and are looking forward to the New Year as much as I am!

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Now that we're official more than halfway to Christmas, it's safe to say that I am well and truly feeling the festivities. This afternoon, Emilie and I spent a few hours decorating the tree and to make myself feel better at the fact that I'm behind with the buying gifts (oops!) I wrapped the ones that I have bought.

Sorry for the picture quality, I think my camera is on its way out!
This year, our tree is in our hallway as we got a bit carried away and it won't fit in the lounge! I always love decorating the tree, especially because the box of decorations is full of the bits and pieces Emilie and I made when we were in Primary school! Once the tree is fully decorated it becomes more acceptable to listen to Michael Buble's album on repeat!

Getting the presents ready

Do you have any Christmas traditions? When do you think it's socially acceptable to blare out the Christmas tunes?

Currently Loving...

Me Before You – Jojo Moyes
I have just finished reading Me Before You and it has become one of my firm favourites. The story centres around two characters; plodding along with life Lou, and a once adventure junkie now quadriplegic Will. The book deals with the controversial topic of euthanasia and explores the reasoning behind Will’s wish, as well as the rest of the characters’ opinions on his desire. Although this topic is a fairly hefty one, Moyes neatly interlaces other themes into the book so that there is a wonderful balance of friendships, family and romance intermingled with the life lessons the characters face. It was a book that had me hooked from the very start and pulled at my heartstrings so much so that I found myself caring about what happened the fictional characters. It’s one of those rare books that I could pick up again tomorrow and still enjoy it as much as if it were the first time I were joining Lou and Will on one of their disastrous outings! You know you’ve found a winner when you don’t want the story to end.

Essie Nail Varnish
When I was last in Boots I couldn’t resist picking up these two beauties. I spotted Cute as a Button (the coral pink shade) from down the aisle and knew instantly that I had to have it. It’s not a very wintery shade but I thought it would a perfect way to brighten up wintery outfits. I was also looking for a more subtle colour that could be used on days where I wanted a more understated look. There were quite a few that caught my eye but when I saw that this one was called Ballet Slippers the deal was sealed and I popped it into my basket. Is it bad that I end up buying Essie nail varnishes because of their names?

Yankee Christmas Eve
Now that is officially the festive season, I thought it was time that I gave my room a bit of a Christmas glow. My sister and I spent hours in the Yankee shop when we went to Bluewater last month trying to decide which candles we wanted to get. I don’t really like the smell of cinnamon and Emilie is allergic to it, so a lot of the festive Yankee candles were a no go. In the end I managed to find the ultra-Christmassy Christmas Eve which leaves my room smelling of sugared plums and candied fruit.

Popcorn Lip Scrub
In the winter months I find no matter how often I use lip balm, I always seem to be battling with dry lips. To help try and relive this I decided to give Lush’s lip scrub a go and so far I have not been disappointed. I think the best thing about this has to be the popcorn flavour, it smells so yummy!

Maybelline Fuchsia Flash
What feels like ages ago, I entered a competition online to be in with the chance of winning one of Mollie King’s limited edition lipsticks. Fast forward a month or two and queue me being very puzzled as to what could be in the mini package that dropped through my door! I really love this fuchsia colour, it’s not too in your face so people like me (who aren’t always that bold) can feel comfortable pretending to be Mollie for the day!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland...

On Friday, Ben and I celebrated our three year anniversary. To mark the occasion, we decided to take a trip to Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland as it's become some what of a tradition for us to visit it each year. Ben met me after work and we headed straight to the christmas fun!

We took a stroll round the stalls to admire all the festive goodies before heading to the Bavarian Village to get a bite to eat. We both settled on the good old German classic of bratwurst and potatoes followed by a visit to the waffle stand nearby. I love going to Winter Wonderland, it really gets me feeling all festive. It's also a good place to go if you want somewhere that will be a special night but won't break the bank!

Have you been to Winter Wonderland? What gets you into the festive spirit?
